For weeks, the Black Hills were drenched in golden sunshine and heat. Then came July 11th, with a forecast full of nothing but rain. I checked the radar over and over, hoping for a break, but the skies just opened and poured. Reese and David’s outdoor ceremony was quickly moved inside the State Game Lodge Event Barn, and it turned out to be everything you’d want from a rainy-day wedding: intimate, cozy, and wildly romantic.
And then, as if the day had been scripted, around 7:00 PM the storm clouds finally lifted. We drove out to the Custer State Park Wildlife Loop, where the sky turned soft and golden. The sunset was dreamy, the grass still glistening from the storm, and in the distance, bison wandered slowly through the fields.
Back at the barn, DJ Marek kept the energy high and the dance floor packed all night long. His perfect mixing carried the celebration late into the evening, blending seamlessly with the laughter, the clinking glasses, and the kind of joy that fills a room to the brim.
It was the perfect ending to a Black Hills wedding day.
